Unlocking the Power of KP Tiles for Meaningful Learning 2-3rd grade
Wednesday March 26, 2025 9:35am - 10:50am MST
In this session for 2-3rd grade teachers, we will explore how KP Tiles can be used to support students in developing number sense, recognizing patterns, and thinking flexibly about place value, addition, and subtraction. Participants will engage in hands-on activities that demonstrate how these tiles make abstract numerical concepts more tangible, helping students connect symbolic representations with real-world applications. By integrating KP Tiles into instruction, educators can create engaging learning experiences that foster deeper comprehension and mathematical confidence in their students.

Integrating Multiple Perspectives in Classroom Literacy Practices
Wednesday March 26, 2025 1:05pm - 2:30pm MST
The presentation focuses on the importance of incorporating culturally and linguistically varied resources into literacy education. It highlights the risks of presenting a "single story," which can narrow students' understanding of the world and themselves. The framework emphasizes using literature as windows, mirrors, and doors—allowing students to see themselves, understand others, and explore new possibilities. By building empathy, reducing invisibility, and expanding representation, educators can foster a more complete learning environment. The presentation also offers practical tools for evaluating children's literature to ensure varied and authentic representation of cultures, identities, and languages, encouraging critical thinking and broadening perspectives in young learners. The target audience is Elementary educators.
